GtkTreeView is used to show trees and lists in GTK+. Like GtkTextView, it is separated in an MVC fashion. GtkTreeView is the view and the controller. GtkTreeModel is the model it represents. In Figure 5-30, a tree is shown along the right side of the window, and a list is shown to offer a choice of smiley themes. Both are GtkTreeView widgets.

If you are running 11.5.10 or OAM.H rollup 1, performance issues on the client can be diagnosed using the Client System Analyzer tool provided by Oracle. The Client System Analyzer is executed from any form by going to the Help Diagnostics Menu Client System Analyzer. After selecting these menu options, the Client System Analyzer applet and a compatible Java Virtual Machine (JVM) will be downloaded. This tool will collect CPU, memory, operating system, and other relevant workstation information. To view the results of the analysis, click the View Results button. GTK+ provides two different models compatible with GtkTreeView. These are GtkTreeStore and GtkListStore. GtkTreeStore is a nested hierarchy of items, whereas GtkListStore is a flat list. The two look identical to GtkTreeView, which is used to view and control both of them. It s also possible to create your own GtkTreeModel, but you will very rarely need to. A GtkTreeModel, whether it s a list or a tree, is a set of rows. Each row is represented by a number of columns. When you create a GtkTreeModel (I ll use GtkListStore as an example), you specify the columns during creation. Because you need to know what columns are in your GtkListStore and what they represent, it s common to see an enum declared to keep track of this: enum { ACTIVE_COLUMN, ICON_COLUMN, TEXT_COLUMN, NUM_COLUMNS };

Most of the applications you ll build with Django will require you to write a fair amount of code on your own. Django will take care of the heavy lifting and the repetitive tasks, but it ll still be up to you to handle features unique to each specific application. Sometimes, though, features built into Django or applications bundled with it will provide most or all of what you need. The contrib applications bundled with Django, for example, provide functionality you ll likely reuse from project to project. You ll build your simple brochureware CMS by relying heavily on two of Django s contrib applications: django.contrib.flatpages and django.contrib.admin. The first of these, django.contrib.flatpages, provides a data model for a simple page, including a title, content, and a few configurable options such as custom templates or authentication. The other application, django.contrib.admin, provides a powerful administrative interface that can work with any Django data model, letting you create a more or less instant web-based interface to administer a site. The first step here is to add these applications to the INSTALLED_APPS setting. Remember that Django placed four applications in the list by default. Now you can add two more:

To create a GtkListStore object call GtkListStore *list = gtk_list_store_new(NUM_COLUMNS,G_TYPE_BOOLEAN, G_TYPE_PIXBUF, G_TYPE_STRING); The constructor takes the number of columns in the list and the types of data that will be stored in those columns, in this case a Boolean, a GdkPixbuf, and a string. The syntax for creating a GtkTreeStore is identical to the syntax for creating a GtkListStore, but called gtk_tree_store_new().
